About

The Artist Behind the Turtle

Monisha Tripathy is a contemporary Indian artist known for expressive feminine figurative art — work that explores identity, vulnerability, and strength through bold strokes and deeply felt emotion. Every painting is a conversation: between the artist and her subject, between the seen and the unseen, between what society expects of women and what women truly feel.

Why "Turtle That Paints"?

The turtle moves slowly, deliberately, and carries its home on its back — a quiet symbol of resilience, introspection, and the courage to be unhurried in a world that rushes. For Monisha, painting is that same act of turning inward. The name is a reminder that art doesn't need to be loud to be powerful. It just needs to be true.

The Mission: Honouring Feminine Energy

Turtle That Paints exists to celebrate the full spectrum of feminine experience — not just the soft and the gentle, but also the fierce, the grieving, the joyful, and the complex. The brand's philosophy is rooted in the belief that feminine energy is not a weakness to be softened, but a force to be witnessed and honoured.

Each piece is created with the intention of making the viewer feel seen — especially those who have spent too long feeling invisible.

The Process

Monisha works with acrylics, ink & watercolours on canvas, paper, mixed media, building layers of colour and texture that mirror the layered nature of human emotion. No two pieces are alike. The figures in her work are deliberately expressive rather than photorealistic — it is the feeling, not the likeness, that matters.

Many works begin as a quiet observation: a gesture, a glance, a moment of stillness. From there, the painting finds its own voice.

Art is more than just a form of creative expression for me — it's a way of life. I believe that by embracing my authentic self and staying true to passion, I can help others do the same.

About the paintings

My art is a celebration of the multifaceted female experience. I delve into the complexities of womanhood, capturing the strength, vulnerability, and resilience that define it. Through acrylic medium, I challenge stereotypes, inspire self-reflection, and invite viewers to appreciate the diverse narratives of women. My work is an ongoing evolution, reflecting the limitless potential of female empowerment and artistic expression. I hope it resonates with the essence of womanhood, empowering others to join in this exploration.
